Nude??? Colour or Concept??

As always I've been chatting and following new blogs and bloggers and I found a topic I hadn't really thought about, Nude.

It was Chanel of Chanel's Beauty Bible who put this question to the world, so read this post!!!!

Then I saw a tweet by Betty at Beauty by Betty

"Same Shade, Different Tones"

Then my girl Christina  of Styled to the T, read it!!!  did a collaboration with a group of bloggers  showing Spring Lippies for darker skin tones!

I had never really given "nude" a second though, I'm just not into the shades usually!!!? But maybe the fashion and beauty world should be!!!!

What is nude?

The colour of naked flesh???

But we are all different colours, tones and shades!

I know I can't find "nude" clothes the colour of my skin, I tried looking for fabric to make a nude dress and it just wasn't happening!

"Nude" clothes are all kinda beige-pink, I don't have pinkish skin, if anything I've more yellowy (not jaundiced or a Simpson) undertones... I kinda tan well if I'm out in the sun, it hasn't been happening recently! (What's with the weather???) maybe sallow-ish?? So I can find nude paler or pinker than my skin, and I'm pretty pale, so what if I was even darker??? I'd have no hope!!!

But good new Christian Louboutin had started to tackle this problem check out his The Nude Collection here!!!

The beauty industry has mostly gotten in line too, however I never thought about this either, I know the colour on the lipstick isn't really what it's going to look like on my lips, but are these swatches more tuned to white skin tones??
Think about hair dye..... they show 3 hair colours before and after usually, I know it's a bigger box to put pics but does anyone in the beauty industry usually show the same shades on different tones anywhere???

Then I saw Chanel's Baked Earth Misguided post, read it here! and thought this is really a nudes trend, maybe they should have marketed it as a "real nudes" trend and take a leaf from Louboutin's book!!!

Clothes come in all shapes and sizes but underwear... nude really has to be nude if it is to be "fit for purpose". I found some that are, Bjorn Borg and Nubian Skin

Come on if nothing else it's a great advertising campaign!!!! Just look at Benetton

I have to honour Winnie Harrlow, to put Vitiligo out there and normalise it, she truly fits this question, What is Nude??

I hope you found this post interesting, and a bit different my my usual posts!

But I have pay tribute to the designers and photographers to are tackling this concept head on!!!

Midweek Motivation ~ Healthy Eating ~ Yoghurt Pot

As you may (or may not, tut tut) know I try/am trying to eat healthily, I'm a kinda all or nothing girl so if I eat healthy I do but if I eat sweets I eat all the sweets!!! There is no difference in my mind between a single serving bar of chocolate and a multi-pack, either go well with A cup of tea!!!

That said I came across a lovely girl Linh, who has a great blog, Finding Linh, and did a post on salad parties, this seemed like an amazing concept to me so I shared her post on google plus and twitter and now I am sharing it wit you, people of the blogosphere! (I need a group of friends who work 9-5 and bring lunch/ want to have a salad party!) Read her post here! After telling her what a great idea this was, she mentioned wanting to do a yoghurt pot kinda party with summery fruits, I thought this is for me!!!

Now I am yet to find a group who want to make this party happen but I did think it was a great lunchtime/snack idea and so after looking in my fridge at all the berries I had bought I thought I'd give it a go for making my lunches!!! I also love cute jars, as you can see here in my cake jar post, and up-cycling jars post!

Ingredients I used in order(so you got gooey to crunchy):

  • Glenisk Vanilla Yoghurt
  • Healy's Honey
  • Chai seeds
  • Raspberries
  • Blueberries
  • Granola

You must start with the wet ingredients; yoghurt/honey, (I had my chai seeds pre-soaked for my porridge so they are kinda in the wet category but it's really up to you how you like them) separating them from the dry crunchy granola with the fresh berries!

Make up a few and store them in the fridge for a quick exodus in the morning and a tasty healthy lunch!

Hope you try this out and let me know how it goes?

What mix would you like in your yoghurt pot?

Have you had a salad party??

Do you say yoghurt or yogurt???

Liebster Awards #2

Great News, I have been nominated again to do the Liebster Award,
this time by my real life bestie,  the wonderful, beautiful  Beauty-la-Linda (show her blog some love)

Let me explain the concept for you:

  • Thank the person who nominated you and include link to their blog.
  • Answer the 11 questions.
  • Think up 11 new questions
  • Nominate 11 other bloggers you think deserve the nomination, who have under 1000 followers.
  • Alert them to the nomination on social media!

 The Q & A

1. What made you decide to join the blogging world?

I don't know really, looking for a creative outlet, I missed this world after finishing college! And guess who??? Yep Linda encouraged me to start a blog so I kinda went from there!

2. Is blogging what you thought it would be when you started?

I didn't really know what to expect!
It is actually a lot of work, maybe I didn't comprehend that at the start.

3. What has been you highlights in the blogging world so far?

The blogging community!!! So supportive and encouraging, wasn't expecting it at all but so thankful and happy to have found such a lovely group of people!!!

4. What are your favourite types of blogs to read?

I'm into everything really, I do like my make-up but fashion is one of my real passions, from trend forecasting to #OOTD.

Then there is baking and foodie blogs, I have a mouth full of sweet teeth so any simple bakes are a must!

Then crafts and knitting etc guess this ties in with fashion?!

I think lifestyle is a catch all, so if you give me everything I love that's great!!!!

5. What is your goal for your blog? Is it you hobby or would you like it to be your job?

It is a hobby at the moment and I think it should stay that way. A creative outlet in a modern hectic world.

6. What is the most important thing you have learn about blogging so far?

It is difficult and it takes time and effort but it's worth it!

7. Which country is currently at the top of your list to visit!?

This is a tough one, I don't really know, it's more what I want to see, maybe the Dali museum in Spain or a Fashion Week?? Then there is always a sun holiday where I don't see anything but the beach!!!!

8. If you could be anyone for a day who would it be?

I'm kinda happy being myself! I don't know.... There are so many incredible people in the world, past and present, but I wouldn't want to put myself in a stressful situation even if it's just for one day!

9. Who is your biggest inspiration in life?

No idea, everyone has something to offer and can teach you something! I am mostly inspired by my family and friends!

10. If you could give one piece of advice to your younger self what would it be?

I don't think I would give advise, everything happens for a reason so go with it! Don't stress the small things??

11. What is you ideal day?

A day spent with family, friends & pets, just relaxing and chatting!

Shopping ~ Gap & Primark/Penneys Haul ~ Shopaholic Diaries

As you know I am a self confessed shopaholic! And again I've been shopping!

First off Gap are having a mid-season sale... so I picked up this striped shirt for €10!!!!! Yay!!!

Then I strolled over to Penneys, (that's Primark) and I am pleased to say undertook some major self control and only picked up a few pieces!

P.S....

First of the P.S... make-up range have gone through some changes and now they have a wide array of amazing products! Beauty bloggers have been raving about these recently!

"Dare to Bare" lipstick for just €1.30! Now I have seen and heard a lot about this range but found my local store have a poor colour selection!!!Tut tut I want more colours!!!! Smells amazing though!

Then I picked up some cheerful nail polishes, can't wait to try the P.S... Gel effect in "Mardi Gras"! (€2.00)
Then the "Pink Me Up"; "Atomic" & "Mermaids Tail". (€1.50)

Then I picked up some cute erasers for 50c! Love stationary!

And I put it all in this cute panda tote for €1.

Ahh so happy, got my shopping fix!!!

And self control I saw and nearly got the P.S... nudes palette it was only €2.50 and the Contour kit €4.00 but I really didn't need these... I have lots of nude palettes and I contour fine with my bronzer and highlighter!

Go me!!! Self-Control!!!!!!

Stay Positive and Grow!!!

As part of my "Being a Functioning Person" in 2016 and on... includes doing simple things like attempting mornings and making the bed. However  part of my life I have been miss-treating recently is my garden. Ok it's a bit much to call it a garden but my window sills and hanging baskets (now not hanging)

Over the winter I tend to forget about them as they do not require so much attention. (I do water sporadically)

I think plants and flowers cheer up my house and my life! Not only do they filter the air (important for those living in built up areas) but they teach us to nurture and look after something other than ourselves and simply put a smile on our face!!!
So to inspire me I have been pinning and reading and one blog I came across Black Thumb Gardener gave me some pocket friendly ideas about recycling kitchen waste into functional plants that I just have to share with you!

I might start with the ginger as it seems the simplest. I have in the past grown my own peppers from the seeds inside my bell peppers so I might do this again too!

Also one of my onions started to grow in the kitchen, I'm not sure what it will do but I planted it anyway!!!

And something random started to sprout out of my compost bin and I plan to grow that too, if for no other reason just to find out what it is??? Mostly teabags and coffee in there??

So I plan to start now and keep you updated on my progress!

Have you grown/ recycled kitchen waste? Please tell me your stories!!!

Baking! CookieMonster Cupcakes! Recipe!

I just love Cookie Monster ever since I was a child and I've seen many cookie monster recipes over the years and have always wanted to try one. I recently saw one using coconut to make cookie monsters fur and just thought this was a great idea as some cupcake frosting is a bit too sweet and overpowering for me!

So here goes

Regular Vanilla Cupcake recipe:

  • 4oz Self Raising Flour
  • 4oz Sugar
  • 4oz Marg
  • 2eggs
  • Few drops Vanilla

Put it all in a bowl and mix together.
Fill your cupcake cases and bake for 15-20minutes at 180C

Cream cheese frosting:

  • Cream cheese
  • Butter
  • Icing sugar
  • Drop of Vanilla Essence

This is all down to personal taste so just mash together and add more of whichever taste you prefer!

Decoration:

  • Desidited Coconut
  • Blue Food Colouring
  • Drop of Water

  • Cadbury's White chocolate Buttons
  • Liquorish
  • Chocolate Chip Cookie

Fill a cup with coconut and add food colouring and a drop of water and mix until you have the right shade of blue for cookie monster!

When your cupcake has cooled using a knife or spoon cover with frosting an dunk into your blue coconut, give it a bit of a shake around to completely coat!

Pop two white chocolate buttons on top for eyes and a slice of liquorish for the pupils and stick a chocolate chip cookie in his mouth!!!

Hope you try this and love recipe! Let me know how yours turn out and send images!!!

Have you seen my Ferrero Rocher Cake post??

Or my simple Chocolate Fudge post??

Baking Love ~ Minions ~ Cookies & Shortbread & Biscuits ~

Another Baking post! You never get tired of them!!

Wanted to share my ebay find with you! So here's a link to my ebay minions cookie cutter. Buying on ebay you can grab some great bargains (€1.58/ £1.23/ $1.76)  once you don't mind the wait for delivery! I forgot about these and was pleasantly surprized when the postman came!

These are great as they are plungers so easily cut your dough and press your little minions faces into it!

Here's their image:

Here's the odlums shortbread recipe, however any cookie recipe could be used with these cutters!

Shortbread Ingredients:

  • 125g/4oz Odlums Cream Plain Flour
  • 50g/2oz Cornflour
  • 125g/4oz Butter (softened)
  • 50g/2oz Caster Sugar

  • Mix all together, roll out, cut and bake for approx. 12 mins at 160C

And my process, (oops burnt a few!)

All lined up on the cookie sheet before baking!

Then I had an idea to ice them but didn't have any fondant icing! Fondant icing is great for these plungers, I would recommend this not my runny icing sugar water combo!!!

Painted them with a tiny paint brush and food colouring!!! Think I'll post this as a Pinterest fail!!!!
At first it seemed great but the icing kinda melted and ran in my warm kitchen!!! Maybe if I left the icing set overnight, who knows? But I was able to use the plunger on the icing after a few hours with no problem, should have taken a photo of that!!!!

Have you any baking fails? Or successes?

Any baking products you think I should check out?

    xx
